Tennessee Law To Expand ATV Riding Area

March 2016 American Motorcyclist Association

A bill awaiting the governor’s signature would allow ATV riders to travel along a section of U.S. 25W in Rocky Top, TN, providing users of the Windrock Park off-road recreation area access to the city’s commercial district.

The privately-owned Windrock Park encompasses more than 72,000 acres, including off-highway-vehicle trails, hiking trails and mountain biking trails.

The new law allows ATV owners to ride into Rocky Top to buy gas, eat at restaurants, stay at the hotels and more without having to haul their ATVs on a truck or trailer.

Gov. Bill Haslam is expected to sign the bill into law on July 1.

Rocky Top city officials are considering safety requirements and procedures for riding through town and onto commercial properties. ATV riders will still have to register, receive a permit and follow all safety requirements. The city plans to provide ATV parking.
