A Truck by Any Other Name – HDX 700 EPS

February 2016 Powersport News

As a continuation of featuring Arctic Cat’s recently released new mid-season ATV and side-by-side models, here’s a look at the HDX 700 EPS series.

From loading and hauling, to dumping and towing, the 2016 Arctic Cat HDX 700 XT EPS, HDX 700 SE EPS and HDX 700 SE Hunter Special EPS are built to tackle jobs with the most usable features and 3-person comfort available anywhere. They’re the 3-rider pickup trucks that turn chores into fun and adventure into relaxation.

The signature features of the HDX models are the 40/20/40 “bench-style” 3-person seat and versatile rear cargo box. Large enough to hold items as large as a pallet, the transformable 2-in-1 tilting composite cargo box (with tailgate) can haul 1000 lbs. payload, plus it can convert into a flatbed in just minutes to add even greater versatility. Multiple tie-down options ease securing loads, while dual built-in 18-gallon side storage compartments provide convenience when adding extra payload. A 2-in. rear receiver hitch is backed by a 1,500-lb. towing capacity.

Redesigned last season, the premium quality Surlyn bodywork features an automotive-style hood with a 22-gallon box offering 25 lbs. of payload that’s water-resistant and easily accessible. It’s complemented by a smart dash and console layout featuring a deep 1.9-gallon glovebox, center cubby and dash-mounted shift lever. And it’s topped with an ultra-bright LED/halogen headlight system that provides improved lighting options.

Arctic Cat focused on maximum rider comfort with the HDX design, with emphasis on optimizing ergonomics and occupant space. The low-profile shoulder and foot restraints ease vehicle entry and exit while providing 3.125 in. of additional shoulder compared to previous models. They’re matched by an infinitely adjustable tilt-steering wheel that provides maximum clearance for the driver’s legs, plus ergonomically friendly gas and brake pedals. Vehicle entry and exit have never been so easy and comfortable.

Power comes from the liquid-cooled H1 700 SOHC 4-stroke engine with the spot-on calibration of a closed-loop Electronic Fuel Injection for maximum performance and mileage. That power transfers through the Duramatic Automatic transmission, which features high/low/reverse/park and dynamic engine breaking. The front locking 4WD differential is activated with an all-in-one 2WD/4WD/Differential rocker switch button for quick and simple shifts.

These key features are matched by driver-friendly Variable Assist Electronic Power Steering (EPS) that begins at engine idle to provide significantly reduced steering effort when in 4WD, especially when the differential lock is engaged. Arctic Cat EPS reduces the torque necessary to steer the HDX when changing direction with a loaded cargo box or navigating tough obstacles like rocks, deep mud or logs. The result is a light steering input effort, but with enough feedback so the driver senses the tire contact patch in relation to the terrain.

The chassis features a Wildcat-inspired round tube canopy. The fully-independent, double A-arm front and rear suspensions boast 10 in. of travel with adjustable Fox Float coil-over shocks for comfort and control. A full 10 in. of ground clearance and a rear-mounted sway bar provide an enhanced ride quality.

The HDX XT comes with cast-aluminum wheels, Duro Kaden tires and is available in Black, Team Arctic Green or True Timber Camo.

The limited edition HDX 700 SE EPS features an electric bed lift, 5,000-lb. winch, gun scabbard with mount and a special dash-mounted, numbered plaque. It’s available in True Timber Camo/Orange Metallic.

The limited edition HDX SE Hunter Special features an electric bed lift, 5,000-lb. winch, gun scabbard with mount and a special dash-mounted, numbered plaque. It’s available in True Timber Camo.
