(ED—Although the public comment period has passed, we’re posting this story to let our readers know about a possible new trail in Wyoming.)
Sheridan, Wyo. – The Forest Service is requesting public comments on a proposal to designate a motorized trail in the Tongue Ranger District of the Bighorn National Forest.
The proposed trail would be located south of U.S. Highway 14A and across U.S. Highway 14 in the Burgess Junction area. The trail would be open to non-motorized use and motorized vehicles 50 inches wide or less and would be a combination of new construction and existing or former roads. The proposed trail would have a seasonal closure and travel restrictions on motorized use from Nov. 16 to June 15 annually. The seasonal closure would not apply to snowmobiles.
The public comment period for the draft environmental assessment opened on Sept. 4, 2015. Comments will be accepted for 30 days and can be hand delivered or sent by regular mail to district ranger Amy Ormseth, Tongue Ranger District, 2013 Eastside 2nd Street, Sheridan, WY 82801, e-mailed to comments-bighorn@fs.fed.us (please put “Comments: Lodge ATV Connector Trail Project” in the subject line), or faxed to (307) 674-2668.
