History-Making Ride Scheduled For Mackinac Bridge On Oct. 3

September 2015 Powersport News Sault Ste. Marie Evening News

More than 1,000 all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) will cross the Mackinac Bridge on Oct. 3 when the first-ever Trek the Mighty Mac event rolls into St. Ignace.

ATVs, side-by-sides and off-road motorcycles are invited to participate in this one-of-a-kind parade for a nominal registration fee that includes a lunch and other perks.

The ride was the brain child of John Chad, an advocate for those who enjoy riding ATVs. Sadly, Chad passed away last year, but organizers were committed to bringing his dream to reality and the result will be a history-making ride across the most-recognizable Michigan landmark: the Mackinac Bridge.

“We are excited to welcome riders from Michigan and beyond for what is sure to be a once-in-a-lifetime journey for them,” said Mindy Rutgers, executive director of the St. Ignace Visitors Bureau. “Trek the Mighty Mac is the perfect combination of exciting ride and social event that is sure to be the start of many great friendships, too.”

Participants can also park their SxS or ATV after the historic ride and enjoy the free shuttle provided by the St. Ignace Events Committee for the remainder of the weekend.

Special awards will be given to some participants, like those who have traveled the furthest or the club that has the most members on site for the ride. A variety of ATV, ORV and motorcycle clubs have already registered for the event and are supporting support and sponsorship for the event. Leading the parade across the bridge will be members of Mud Brothers of the North ATV/UTV Club from Indian River, MI.

The official start to the crossing will begin at 10 a.m., with lunch served afterward from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and a beer tent with live music from 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. Awards and prizes will be doled out at 5 p.m. All post-crossing events will occur at the Little Bear East Arena.

Registration deadline is Sept. 29, 2015. To register or for more information about the event and area lodging, visit stignace.com.
