Yamaha Grizzly: One Bear Of An ATV

July 2015 Powersport News Web Exclusive

We first saw glimpses of the new Yamaha Grizzly earlier this summer during a media presentation in Georgia.

We finally got to throw a leg over the 2016 version today at Windrock Park in Oliver Springs, TN, which features some tough and unforgiving terrain. We took the Grizzly into some nasty stuff and it took everything we threw at it.

We’re pretty bullish on this bear.

Three things we were most impressed after a day of riding the Grizzly:

1 - the EPS is worth the price of the ATV alone. We wouldn’t have last five miles on a non-EPS ATV on the Windrock trails today.

2 – the new 708cc powerplant has plenty of snort and torque for the nasty and gnarly obstacles.

3 – the ride is smooth and we were plenty glad for 11.3 inches of ground clearance. We used every last bit (and then some a couple of times) on the rocks, logs and roots that littered the Windrock trails.

Bonus – the engine braking is the real deal on this. We used it plenty on many a descent on the Windrock trails.

There are also a couple of videos from our ride today on our Facebook page.
