Got (Extra) Gas? Project Backcountry RZR Does

Published in the May 2015 Issue May 2015

The build for the project side-by-side Backcountry RZR continues to be a work in progress. This time around Eric Tibbens installs RotoPax gas pack/fuel cans from Logan, UT-based Great Outdoor Products.

“The install of the RotoPax was really simple and easy,” Tibbens said. “I chose the flat mounts so that I could install one underneath my rack and the other on the rear of the rack. These things are sweet and really are a must have if you go on extended rides where you will need additional fuel.”

He added, “Sure, you can just grab a fuel can from Walmart or your local hardware store but they are bulky and more often than not you have a hard time trying to find a good place to put it.”

The big advantage of the RotoPax is it gives you the ability to secure the fuel, water or storage packs in out-of-the-way places. Tibbens explained that the mounting process was very simple and pretty self explanatory.

Tibbens said to install the RotoPax, you have to measure the distance between the two mounting places on the RotoPax as well as the four mounting bolts on the plate that goes on the vehicle. Great Outdoor Products makes round mounting brackets for mounting on roll cages or flat mounts to mount on any flat surface.

Tibbens mounted one of the packs underneath the rear rack because he always wants extra fuel with him when he journeys into the backcountry. “I'm never too sure how long I’ll be out or how far I'll be going so having that extra fuel is a must for me,” he said.

He also got a RotoPax water pack and a RotoPax storage pack with a tire repair kit and first aid kit.

“One really cool feature that RotoPax has that their competitors don't is that you can remove two clips and connect a storage with water or a water and fuel or however you like,” he said. “This is a extremely nice feature so you can customize the RotoPax to match you riding needs. I love the RotoPax and like I said, it is a must have for anyone who goes on extended rides or just likes to have the security of having that extra fuel, water or storage.”
