Published in the August 2014 Issue August 2014 Powersport News

For years Garmin has earned a reputation with its various GPS units. But this past year Garmin has expanded its navigation expertise into a wrist-watch unit and has entered in the action camera market with a rugged HD recorder.

The Tactix is a rugged high-sensitivity GPS navigator and ABC watch inspired by the requirements of law enforcement and police special operations. Built for training, exploring and about anything else, this field-ready wristwatch boasts an altimeter, barometer, 3-axis compass and extensive tracking capabilities for precise navigation in the field.

The Tactix is waterproof to 50 meters and can run up to 50 hours in GPS mode on one charge. It has a matte black design with a curved lens and green backlight so it won’t flare out with night vision devices or compromise the user’s position. The Tactix can withstand even the most extreme elements and situations, but is sleek enough to be worn as an everyday timepiece.

It retails for $449.99.

The Garmin VIRB is an HD 1080p action camera with unique features that make it easier than ever to capture life’s memories. The VIRB features a rugged and waterproof housing, so there is no extra case necessary to withstand the elements. The 1.4-inch Chroma color display makes setup and playback a breeze and uses minimal power so VIRB can record up to three hours of true HD (1080p) video on one charge.

On-board video enhancement features such as digital image stabilization and lens distortion correction ensure that footage recorded with VIRB will look great, even before editing. The VIRB can capture high-quality still photos while the video camera is recording. The VIRB Elite incorporates all these features, plus has built-in WiFi, data sensors and a high-sensitivity GPS. Both VIRB and VIRB Elite feature ANT+ connectivity for remote control functionality with other Garmin products, and for

data transfer with other fitness sensors.

The VIRB retails for $299.99 and the VIRB Elite retails for $399.99.
