Wienen, Brown Finish 1-2 In Final ATV Nationals Points Standings

August 2013 Racing

Last weekend, GPS Offroad riders Chad Wienen and Thomas Brown finished what they started at Round 1 of the 2013 Mtn. Dew ATV Nationals by claiming the top two podium positions at the season finale at Loretta Lynn's dude ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Chad Wienen, who led the series in points from Round 1, wrapped up the series championship a round earlier at Red Bud, giving Wienen his second AMA Pro ATV championship and earning GPS Offroad Products the first of what they hope to be many championships in the years to come.

Wienen began the 2013 season with confidence, having proved in 2012 that his Wienen Motorsports program was capable of winning a championship. This year, the addition of longtime friend and Pro racer Thomas Brown would improve the visibility of the team as well as increase the chances of winning more podiums and more overall wins in 2013. And that is exactly what happened.

In ten rounds, the two Wienen Motorsports riders amassed a total of 31 podium finishes, nine moto wins and a total of nine overalls, eight by Wienen and one by Brown. There were only two races all season long that didn't see both riders on the podium and only one race all season that Wienen Motorsports didn't take the overall.

Brown's win at Loretta's marked his first ever Pro class overall since turning Pro in 2009. It was an emotional victory for Brown, coming back from what could have been a horrifying crash in the first moto and finishing out the day with the win. Brown's first place overall finish solidified him in the second place position in the season points standings, the best finish of his career.

"Partnering with a new company has a lot of risk involved," says GPS Offroad President Ty Zimmerman.  "We are extremely thankful that they [Wienen and Brown] had the faith in us to allow us to be a part of their program with our Goldspeed aluminum wheels. Being a part of a national championship in our first year, not to mention having the top two racers in the country racing and winning with us, shows the capabilities of the wheel and we're excited to see what the future will hold."
