2014 Yamaha YFZ450R Brings Slipper Clutch To ATV World

June 2013 Powersport News autoevolution

Yamaha recently announced the 2014 YFZ450R sport ATV, and it brings nifty features to the off-road game, much to the delight of future owners and riders.

Yamaha claims the 2014 YFZ450R is the industry's first sport ATV with an assist and slipper clutch as stock. This new clutch requires less lever effort and reduces the rear wheel hopping during strong engine braking, allowing the suspensions to work better for increased stability.

The 5-titanium valve engine got new cams and a redesigned exhaust port for better power deployment and increased performance in the middle and all the way through the top rpm range. The engine sits lower in the hybrid steel-aluminum frame for more stability and better cornering. The lower part of the chassis is made of steel, while the upper half is cast aluminum elements bolted together. The same aluminum-steel combo is used in the rim design.

The 2014 Yamaha YFZ450R comes with a better seat with more room for side-to-side transitions in fast corners, and the fenders can be changed without tools because of the quick-release system, available as a Special Edition treat only in past model years.

The handlebars are adjustable and they can be set as standard, 10mm or 20mm forward, or 10mm back, for the best ergonomics for any rider.

The 2014 Yamaha YFZ450R will arrive in August and will retail for $8,799.
