Product Install: UTV Mountain Accessories Roll Cage/Seat Kit

Published in the June 2012 Issue June 2012

Roll Cage/Seat KitSide-by-sides were basically created so off-roading can be enjoyed by two people; a buddy, family, wife (or husband) or significant other-someone else. Polaris then made it possible to get a stock side-by-side with room for four, followed by Kawasaki. Aftermarket companies jumped into the game and have been making seats, usually a bench, which sits in the bed of some side-by-sides. Of course, you need to extend the roll cage to make it safe for all occupants.

We asked one of those companies-UTV Mountain Accessories-to show just how easy it is to install a rear seat and roll cage.

Before he started the roll cage/seat install, UTV Mountain Accessories owner Chris Jackson stressed just how easy it is and that most any person can do the install.

UTV Mountain Accessories' roll cage/seat has been designed to be installed by one or two people in one to one-and-a-half hours. There's no need to take your side-by-side to a dealer.

UTV Mountain Accessories has roll cage/seat kits for a number of different side-by-side models, including the Polaris RZR 570, RZR 800, RZR 900 XP, all Can-Am Commanders, Honda Big Red, John Deere Gator, Arctic Cat Prowler, Prowler HDX, Kawasaki Teryx and Yamaha Rhino.

UTV Mountain Accessories basic package includes a one-piece roll cage (77 lbs.) and seat (30 lbs.), along with all necessary hardware, and retails for about $1,500. The company offers a choice of either a Twisted Stitch seat or one imported from overseas. You specify which one you'd like when ordering the kit. As for the belts for the seat, you can also choose either a harness or lap belt, or one of each. There is no price difference. The company also offers the option of a third seat belt, for an additional charge.

The roll cage is manufactured in Orem, UT.

Jackson installed his roll cage/seat kit on a Commander 1000 LTD the day we watched.

The tools needed for the install include:

 1/4-inch Allen wrench

 1/2-inch open end wrench

 1/2-inch socket

To attach the seat belt (or harness) to the roll cage the tools needed are:

 11/16-inch open end wrench

 9/16-inch ratchet

Here are the steps to install a UTV Mountain Accessories roll cage/seat kit. You can also watch a YouTube install of the roll cage/seat on www.utvmountainaccessories.com.
