July 2018 Feature

CAN-AM OUTLANDER DPS 1000R/DPS 850/DPS 650

The Outlander DPS vehicles received more than a dozen revisions for the 2019 model year, including a completely new front and rear suspension, enhanced power (1000R) and restyling to stand out from the pack. These DPS units also include Tri-Mode Dynamic power steering with the Visco-Lok QE front differential, custom 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels with proven ITP Terra Cross tires and three thrilling engine choices.

Performance

- 3 Rotax V-Twin engine options

The muscular 91 hp, 80 degree 976cc liquid-cooled eight-valve Rotax V-twin engine in the Outlander 1000R ATV provides the most power ever from a production ATV engine. The Outlander 850 family is powered by a 78 hp, liquid-cooled, 80 degree 854cc V-twin engine, which is the most powerful engine in its category. Designed to compete and beat 700-class competitive ATVs, the Outlander 650 ATVs rules its class thanks to its hearty 650cc liquid-cooled Rotax V-Twin powerplant that produces 62 hp.

- Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)

The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) means no shifting is required. The system includes standard engine braking with High, Low, Park, Neutral and Reverse gears. An L gear ratio adds more comfort for low-speed riding and better traction for pulling heavy loads. The CVT housing has 13 bolts to ensure a proper seal and also includes an integrated drain plug.

- Dual-room, no-tools air box

A no-tools air box is placed at a higher and more centralized location for filtering and processing air. A dual-room air filtration design captures dirty air in one portion of the box and clean air in another section before it sends the air to the engine. A higher air intake ensures performance in mud and water.

- Large radiators

The large, efficient radiators offer exceptional cooling capacity to keep the Rotax V-Twin engines running cool for optimal performance. The Outlander 1000R has roughly 27 kW of cooling capacity. The 850 and 650 ATVs each have very capable 22 kW radiators.

- High-grade exhaust and silencer

The Outlander ATVs have a performance-inspired exhaust system, including a durable end cap/cover, that produces a throaty and impressive exhaust note, yet adheres to strict dB and emissions standards.

Handling

- Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) G2 Frame

The Outlander family of 4x4 ATVs use an industry-exclusive Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) G2 frame from BRP. The welded-steel SST frame offers increased structural integrity and handling with fewer parts.

- NEW Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension

With far less moving parts than competitive systems, TTI is designed to eliminate scrub and camber changes when the suspension works up and down and keeps the quad in a straight line. The rear suspension also has motion-control shocks and offers 9.9 inches (25.1 cm) of travel. It includes a removable external sway bar and lower pivot points for geometric squatting to improve traction and power transfer.

- NEW Arched Double A-arm front suspension with dive-control geometry

The Outlander ATVs use a new arched double A-arm front suspension with 9.2 inches (23.3 cm) of travel. Dive-control geometry tightly controls the roll-center, especially when entering corners. The setup also inspires confidence, reducing kickback to the operator by locating the knuckle in the wheel.

- Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS)

The Tri-Mode DPS system features three modes (MIN, MED and MAX) allowing riders to select the desired amount of steering assist to adjust to the terrain requirements and to his riding style. All modes offer less assist at high speed to keep maximum steering feel to the rider and more assist at low speed to reduce steering effort.

- Visco-Lok QE front differential

All DPS-equipped models come with the Visco-Lok QE calibration giving an even quicker engagement of the front differential.

- NEW Selectable riding modes

The new Can-Am Outlander ATVs with the Rotax 1000R V-Twin feature intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) and three operating modes (Standard, Sport and Work) to provide smooth throttle delivery for recreational endeavors, work and when hauling loads and riding with passengers. Sport mode supplies max power, torque and response while the other modes (Standard and Work) are designed to smooth throttle control even more in working situations or navigating challenging terrain.

- NEW 14-inch (35.6 cm) cast-aluminum wheels

New 14-inch (35.6 cm) cast-aluminum wheels have a unique, ultra-strong design and attractive look.

- 26-inch (66 cm) ITP Terra Cross tires

Durable 26-inch (66 cm) ITP Terra Cross tires supply versatile traction in varying terrain.

- 214 mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers

Two large 214 mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers up front and a single twin-piston caliper with 214 mm hydraulic disc brake, located in the right rear wheel, comprise the Outlander ATV braking system.

Rider-Focused Design

- One-year maintenance break-in

With zero break-in maintenance required and a yearly maintenance schedule, the Outlander ATVs reduce total maintenance costs to the buyer. The yearly advised maintenance is 932 miles (1,500 km).

- Easy-to-use maintenance center

Easily accessible and out of the elements under the seat, a centralized maintenance area offers easier access and improved protection. The rear brake fluid reservoir, solenoid starter, battery and relays are also conveniently located under the seat.

- High-strength multi-function racks with LinQ quick-attach accessory system

High-strength, reinforced composite racks have an integrated anti-skid surface and elevated ridges for improved cargo holding. Predetermined “cutouts” were also added for use with the exclusive Can-Am LinQ quick-attach accessory system, which is adaptable and customizable for various uses and products. Combined rack capacity is 300 lbs. (100 front/200 rear) or 135 kg (45 front/90 rear).

- Water-resistant rear storage box

A huge 5.7-gallon (21.4-liter) rear storage box offers exceptional cargo capacity and is located beneath the rear cargo rack. The more convenient location means riders can access the water-resistant, sealed storage box even when the rear cargo rack is loaded.

- Radio Frequency (RF) Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.)

The RF D.E.S.S. requires a specific key to operate the vehicle. Each all-terrain vehicle includes both a performance key and regular key. Can-Am is the only manufacturer to offer a factory-installed anti-theft device as standard equipment.

- Enhanced lighting

The Outlander ATV family includes two 60-W reflectors and dual 55-W projectors to give the Outlander up to 230-W of visual clarity (Hi beams). The Outlander family features the most lighting output of any ATV in the industry. The taillights offer a stylish design and increased visibility for trail riding.

- NEW 1,650-lb. towing capacity

The Outlander ATVs offer the industry’s most capable towing capacity, at 1,650-lbs. (748.4 kg) towing capacity and a standard 2 inch (5 cm) receiver hitch.

- Large 5.4-gallon (20.5 L) fuel tank

The fuel tank is rated to hold 5.4 gallons (20.5 L) of fuel.

- NEW 4.5-inch Digital display

The new 4.5-inch (11.4 cm) digital display (only DPS 1000R) includes a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip and hour meters. A diagnostic center, gear position, engine hour meter, 4x4 indicator, temperature light, engine light, fuel gauge and clock are also part of the standard package.

- Standard skid plate

The high-strength skid plate is made from proven materials and is designed for supreme protection and has the ability to slide over certain obstacles.

- Customization ready

The Outlander ATVs are customization ready, offering a full line of Can-Am performance accessories and come prewired for a winch.

- NEW Stylish design

For 2019, the Outlander DPS ATVs feature revised styling that takes subtle influences from the highly-popular and formidable Can-Am Maverick X3 side-by-side vehicle. Its muscular façade includes a more seamless makeup and low profile, multi-function cargo racks with a special anti-slide surface. Almost no apparent fasteners translate to a cleaner look.

- Color available

The Can-Am Outlander DPS (1000R/850/650) ATVs are available in Orange.
