First Ride: Yamaha YXZ1000R—Our Likes, Dislikes

October 2015 Powersport News Web Exclusive

After spending a day a driving the new Yamaha YXZ1000R high performance side-by-side we have come up with a short list of our likes and dislikes. The list is pretty short in both categories.

Likes – Everything about the machine.

Dislikes – None. Zero. Nada. Rien. Niente. Ingenting.

This vehicle rails and has turned the naturally aspirated high performance/sport segment into a four-way—maybe even a three-way—battle for the sand and desert.

If you absolutely forced us to pick one thing about the YXZ1000R we like above the rest we would be tempted to say the engine/powerplant/horsepower but in reality it is the transmission and being able to manually shift the vehicle. It is so much fun to drive and be able to shift up and down in the five gears (plus reverse) available in this vehicle. The sequential shifting is easy to learn and adds a whole new dimension to driving a side-by-side.

We will have a complete report in the December issue of Dirt Toys Magazine so make sure you pick up a copy of that issue.
