The Can-Am Outlander X mr family, the largest and most popular mud lineup in the industry, is now bigger and more powerful. The X mr family includes mud-ready ATVs with four different Rotax engine choices. The all-new midsize Outlander L X mr 570 offers a new possibility to play in the mud at an affordable price without compromising performance. This new X mr family member joins the returning X mr 650 and both the power-boosted X mr 850 and X mr 1000R for 2016.

Like all Can-Am big-bore ATVs, the X mr family now includes a one-year (1,500 km/932 miles) break-in service maintenance, which reduces ownership costs. All engine packages also include the revised L gear. No matter the conditions, the X mr family of Can-Am Outlander ATVs delivers proven performance for conquering nasty mud with a  menacing look.

Can-Am Outlander X Mr 1000r

Performance

  • 89-hp Rotax V-Twin - The revamped 89-hp, 80 degree 976cc liquid-cooled, eight-valve Rotax V-twin engine in the Outlander X mr 1000R has gained 9 percent more power and leads the ATV industry in performance. Updates include the design of the pistons, a new 54 mm throttle body and a new engine head from the Can-Am Maverick.
  • Mud-ready CVT with lower “L” gear range - The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) means no shifting is required. The system includes standard engine braking with High, Low, Park, Neutral and Reverse gears. The CVT housing has 13 bolts to ensure a proper seal and also includes an integrated drain plug. The Outlander X mr family includes an extra low range “L-gear” with a softer engagement and improved throttle control for low-speed riding and better traction in heavy mud.
  • Integrated CVT intake and exhaust system - Can-Am has made sure that critical components like the CVT intake and engine intake are located as high as possible on the ATV. The company placed them in the pod directly in front of the handlebars and high above the muddy, wet conditions below.
  • Large, relocated radiator - Located on the front rack, the larger radiator on the Can-Am Outlander X mr is kept out of the muddy water and wears a protective, vented cover, ensuring all-day rides in the deep mud.
  • Dual-room, no-tools air box - The X mr family of ATVs have its no-tools air box placed at a high and centralized location for filtering and processing air. A dual-room air filtration design captures dirty air in one portion of the box and clean air in another section before it sends the air to the engine. A higher air intake ensures performance in mud and water.
  • 1,300-pound towing capacity - The Outlander X mr offers a sizeable, 1,300-pound (590 kg) towing capacity and a 2-inch receiver hitch as standard equipment.
  • High-grade exhaust and silencer - The X mr ATV has a performance-inspired exhaust system, including and a durable end cap/cover, that produces a throaty and impressive exhaust note, yet adheres to strict dB and emissions standards.

Handling

  • Fox Performance Series 1.5 Podium RC2 piggyback adjustable shocks - These high-performance shocks have high- and low-speed compression, rebound and preload adjustments to allow riders the flexibility of tuning the suspension to fit the terrain and riding style. Proven in brutal terrain of a GNCC racing series course, the Fox Performance Series 1.5 Podium RC2 piggyback shocks also enhance the 2016 Outlander X mr 1000R ATV’s handling and performance in challenging conditions.
  • Tri-Mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) - Calibrated specifically for aggressive trail riding and racing, the Tri-Mode DPS system features three modes (MIN, MED and MAX) allowing riders to select the desired amount of steering assist for the terrain and conditions.
  • 14-inch (35.6 cm) ITP cast-aluminum wheels - The large, ITP cast-aluminum wheels give the Outlander X mr 1000R an aggressive look.
  • 30-inch (76.2 cm) Gorilla Axle Silverback tires - The proven 30-inch Gorilla Axle Silverback tires were chosen for their exceptional mud-riding characteristics. Developed by Gorilla Axle, these tires have been tested in the deepest mud holes in the southern U.S. They have tall lugs and an aggressive tread pattern for superb mud performance.
  • SST G2 frame with Geometric Contact Control (59-inch) - The Outlander X mr 1000R uses an industry-exclusive Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) G2 frame from BRP and is the lone X mr family member with a 59-inch (150 cm) wheelbase from the Outlander MAX platform. The welded-steel SST frame offers increased structural integrity and handling with fewer parts.
  • Torsional Trailing Arm Independent (TTI) rear suspension - Using far less moving parts than competitive systems, TTI is designed to eliminate scrub and camber changes when the suspension works up and down and keeps the quad in a straight line. Unique to Can-Am, the proven Torsional Trailing Arm Independent rear suspension offers increased rigidity and improved suspension travel. This suspension setup also includes a removable external sway bar and lower pivot points for geometric squatting to improve traction and the transferring of power to the ground.
  • Double A-arm front suspension with dive-control geometry - The X mr vehicles use a race-proven double A-arm setup. Dive-control geometry tightly controls the roll-center, especially when entering corners. The setup also inspires confidence, reducing kickback to the operator by locating the knuckle in the wheel.
  • Visco-Lok QE front differential - The Outlander X mr 1000R models come with the Visco-Lok QE calibration giving an even quicker engagement of the front differential.
  • 214 mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers - Two large 214 mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers up front and a single twin-piston caliper with 214 mm hydraulic disc brake, located in the right, rear wheel, comprise the braking system.

Rider-Focused Design

  • NEW Revised maintenance break-in - The break-in maintenance requirement is no longer necessary on the Outlander vehicles, saving consumers time and money in the long run. The break-in has been revised to one year (1,500 km/932 miles) from 10 hours (300 km/186 miles).
  • Easy-to-use maintenance center - Easily accessible and out of the elements under the seat, a centralized maintenance area offers easier access and improved protection. The rear brake fluid reservoir, solenoid starter, battery and relays are also conveniently located under the seat.
  • 3,000-pound Warn winch - A 3,000-pound (1,361kg) Warn winch could come in handy should the mud prove too troublesome for you or your riding partners.
  • Mud-riding foot pegs - The Can-Am Outlander X mr 1000R has two sets of foot pegs for improved comfort while mud riding. Raised, aggressive steel foot pegs reside in a more traditional spot floorboard position, but the larger, rear foot platforms are flatter and angled to allow the rider to reposition his or her weight when the front end floats up in deep mud holes.
  • Mudguards - Mudguards run on the wheel wells to complete the premium look and give the rider further protection from the mud.
  • Aluminum taper-profile handlebar with square pad - High-grade 6061-T6 aluminum, taper-profile handlebars with a square racing pad are included in the X mr package.
  • Handlebar wind deflectors with aluminum braces (full wrap) - Aggressive trail riders love the added protection from the color-matched wind deflectors.
  • Front and rear bumpers - Rugged front and rear bumpers protect this powerful mud machine in the toughest of conditions.
  • Standard skid plate - The high-strength skid plate is made from proven materials and is designed for supreme protection and has the ability to slide over certain obstacles.
  • High-strength, multi-function rear rack with LinQ quick-attach accessory system - Even with its mud-inspired format, this Outlander can tote 200 lbs. (90 kg) on its high-strength, multi-function rear rack. LinQ system accessories will fit as well.
  • Water-resistant rear storage box - A huge 5.7-gallon (21.4 L) rear storage box offers industry-leading cargo capacity and is located beneath the rear cargo rack. The more-convenient location means riders can access the water-resistant, sealed storage box even when the rear cargo rack is loaded.
  • 625-W magneto - The X mr package provides a more-powerful magneto with a 625-W power output.
  • 230-W lighting and dual taillights - On high beam, the twin 60-W reflectors and dual 55-W projectors give the Outlander 230 watts of visual clarity. The Outlander X mr 1000R features the most lighting output of any ATV in the industry. The taillights offer a stylish design and increased visibility for trail riding.
  • Large 5.4-gallon (20.5 L) fuel tank - The fuel tank is rated to hold 5.4 gallons (20.5 L) of fuel.
  • Analog/digital gauge package - The analog/digital gauge package includes high-grade instrumentation and aesthetically pleasing design. It includes an analog tachometer and speedometer combined with an advanced digital information center.
  • Digitally Encoded Security System (D.E.S.S.) - D.E.S.S., the lone factory-installed anti-theft device, comes standard.
  • NEW Colors available - The Can-Am Outlander X mr 1000R wears either a new White, Black and Can-Am Red color scheme or the optional Digital Camo and Manta Green finish. A premium, embroidered gripper seat cover and sponsor logos add to this exclusive package.

Can-Am Outlander X mr 850

The 2016 Can-Am Outlander X mr 850 also received a 7 hp increase with 7 percent more torque, new color scheme and the reduced maintenance requirements for 2016. Despite sharing several characteristics with its larger-bore brother, the 850 X mr also features a few subtle differences, such as a shorter wheelbase, new Fox HPG shocks, a square gauge and much more.

Performance

  • UPDATED 78-hp Rotax 850V-Twin - The Outlander X mr 850 is powered by a 78-horsepower, liquid-cooled, 80-degree 854cc V-twin engine. It, too, received larger pistons, a new 54 mm throttle body and the Can-Am Maverick engine head, to increase horsepower (+10 percent) and torque (+7 percent).

Handling

  • Tri-mode Dynamic Power Steering (DPS) - Calibrated specifically for aggressive trail riding and racing, the Tri-Mode DPS system features three modes (MIN, MED and MAX) allowing riders to select the desired amount of steering assist for the terrain and conditions.

Can-Am Outlander X mr 650

Much like the X mr 850, the Outlander X mr 650 is designed around the one-up Outlander SST G2 chassis, but still offers class-leading power and a few of its own unique traits like a lower price point and tire-and-wheel package. It, too, now comes in the new White, Black & Can-Am Red coloration.

  • 62-hp Rotax 650 V-twin - Considered an overachiever for its class, the 650cc liquid-cooled Rotax V-Twin powerplant produces 62 horsepower and can easily outperform competitive 700cc class models.
  • 12-inch (30.5 cm) Outlander XT cast-aluminum wheels - The 12-inch, machined cast-aluminum wheels have an attractive custom-like finish compared to the standard Outlander ATV. A computer-optimized configuration increases strength in critical areas while removing unnecessary weight from other portions of the wheels.
  • 28-inch (71.1 cm) Maxxis Mudzilla tires - The 28-in. Maxxis Mudzilla 6-ply tires offer exceptional mud characteristics. Large lugs and an aggressive tread pattern are designed to give a maximum traction in the mud and a smooth ride to the next mud hole.

Can-Am Outlander L X mr 570

New for 2016, the Outlander L X mr 570 mixes the user friendly dimensions and platform from the Outlander L DPS 570 with the Outlander X mr 650 mud riding characteristics to create an all-new vehicle and X mr price point. Designed to offer the most affordable mud package in the industry, the Outlander L X mr 570 is blessed with class-leading performance and a mud-specific configuration that includes a relocated

radiator, snorkel system and Maxxis Mudzilla tires on 12-inch XT cast-aluminum wheels. The X mr 570 is sure to please those looking for a budget-friendly mudder.

  • NEW 48-hp, 570cc Rotax V-twin - The 48-hp, eight-valve, liquid-cooled SOHC Rotax 570 V-Twin offers improved performance for the new model year. The engine received larger pistons, longer stroke and a higher connecting rod to increase horsepower, torque and acceleration without compromising top-end speed. The efficient 570cc Rotax EFI-fed engine, which is mated to a 46 mm throttle body, gained an additional 4 percent horsepower and 9 percent more torque and is capable of work and enjoyment in the mud. EFI ensures optimal performance from the engine at all times.

    • 2.9-Gal. (10.9 L) water-resistant rear storage compartment - The Outlander L models have a convenient, 2.9-gallon (10.9 L) water-resistant rear storage compartment located on the rear rack.
    • 500-W Magneto - This package provides a 500-W magneto, enough to power accessories like extra lights or heated grips.
    • 70-W lighting - Equipped with dual 35-W front headlights, with selectable high and low beams, for superb visual clarity.
    • Large 5.4-gal (20.5 L) Fuel Tank - Ride longer and get the job done with the large-capacity fuel tank.
    • Multi-function digital gauge - The easy-to-read multi-function gauge is equipped with a digital information center, including a speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meter, gear position, hour meter, engine hour meter, temperature and engine lights, fuel gauge and clock.
