OUR REPORT:

We set out with the goal of getting our trail bike as light as possible using over-the-counter aftermarket parts. We pulled the stock battery out of our 2014 KTM 500 XC-W and weighed it on a digital scale. It weighed 4 pounds, 1.6 ounces. We set the Featherweight lithium battery up just as it would be in the bike with foam spacers and weighed it. It came in at 1 pound, 2.4 ounces. That's a 2-pound weight savings for under a hundred bucks.
The bike's starter cranks just as it did before, and after running all of last summer and through the winter on this battery, we have zero issues to report. That includes days in July nearing 100 degrees F, and days on snow with a snow bike conversion kit in sub-zero temperatures.

IF WE COULD SUGGEST IMPROVEMENTS:

If the battery casing was the same size as the OEM battery, it would eliminate the need for the foam spacers. But we realize that makes production for a hundred different size specs unrealistic.

DIRT TOYS RATING:
