Dandy Days At The Dunes

October 2014 Powersport News, Travel

So we just put a wrap on a couple of days of testing on a sea of sand at Glamis, CA, and the new Can-Am Maverick X ds 1000R Turbo proved to be a worthy turnkey sand-duner. The big bore twin has more than enough snort to turn the Maxxis Bighorns off the bottom until the turbo boost fills in to cover the big end, even in the loose dry sand.

The Fox Podium shocks required some adjusting from the factory settings, yet offered impressive overall performance as we pounded the Maverick through major whoops at a very high rate of speed. The mid-engine configuration felt well balanced in most situations and was a confidence builder with good stability.

The cockpit has a couple of issues that we would change if we could, but like the rest of the machine, is a pretty decent layout for all intents and purposes. This sand rocket sports all the latest creature comforts and updates that Can-Am has to offer the consumer. So if you are a hard core sand-duner, you may want to look at the Maverick to fulfill your high performance needs.
