Teryx Two-Seater Not A Watered Down Teryx4

October 2013 Powersport News Lane Lindstrom

It's gonna happen. Anyone who looks at and drives the new 2014 Kawasaki Teryx two-seater is going to compare it to the impressive Teryx4.

That includes us. It's hard not to. The T4 is turning a lot of heads in the side-by-side segment and for good reason.

That said, the Teryx two-seater is a vehicle that can stand on its own four wheels.

We just spend two days driving the 2014 Teryx on West Virginia's Hatfield-McCoy Trails and came away pretty impressed with this vehicle. We thoroughly thrashed the machine over everything the Hatfield-McCoy had to throw at it.

We came away with three first impressions:

1. Perhaps our most favorite feature on the Teryx is the Electric Power Steering. It flat out works and works well in every imaginable condition. We drove over rocks, logs, through the mud, more rocks, ruts, hardpack, through switchbacks and trails more crooked than a witches' nose. And all of it in 4WD. The EPS made our driving easy. There was virtually no kickback. Let's change that to no kickback at all. The happy news is EPS is available on all 2014 Teryx models, even the base model.

2. Kawasaki bumped up the power (749cc to 783cc) on the V-twin Teryx powerplant, increasing the power by 26 percent and torque by 12 percent. The new power isn't going to pull your arms out of their sockets but there's more than enough power to keep things interesting. The bump in power puts the Teryx in the 800 class.

3. This next one might raise an eyebrow or two but the rear storage compartments-located between the seats and the cargo bed-are terrific. We were a bit skeptical when we kept hearing how water and dust resistant they are but we're true believers after two days of riding through dust, mud and water. Indeed, they are just that. And they're plenty big and easy to get to.

We should mention the Kawasaki Strong 3-year limited warranty. Nothing screams I've got your back like a three-year warranty.

The Teryx 800 FI 4x4 EPS has an MSRP of $12,999.

The Teryx 800 FI 4x4 EPS Camo has an MSRP of $14,299.

The Teryx 800 FI 4x4 EPS LE has an MSRP of $14,999.

We'll have a full report on the Teryx soon.
