Idaho Rally International Is This Weekend

June 2012 Powersport News

Boise, Idaho-- The Larry H Miller Subaru Idaho Rally International will take place June 9-10 in the Placerville/Centerville area. The races run 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. The Idaho Rally is a United States Rally Championship event attracting drivers and teams from across North America and Europe.

The race is also a point-paying event in the Pacific Northwest Rally Championship and the California Rally Series. By competing in the Idaho Rally, teams accrue points for these championships. The Idaho Rally has become one of the premier events in the U.S.  With the addition of UTVs, ATVs and motorcycles last year, the Idaho Rally has become a truly unique event.

The Idaho Rally is a stage rally with timed events where the cars race on closed sections of public roads (Harris Creek Rd., Alder Creek Rd., Grimes Pass) and start about two minutes apart to avoid side by side racing. The rally cars may exceed speeds of 100 miles per hour and often only about seven out of ten teams finish the rally due to crashes or mechanical breakdowns. The racers will cover over 100 miles during the two-day race.

All the race cars will be on display at Larry H Miller Subaru, 9380 W Fairview Ave. in Boise on Friday, June 8 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. There will be designated places north of Centerville for spectators to observe the race and it is free to the public.

In addition to the Rally races, there will also be an ATV Jamboree and Rodeo at the Idaho City Rodeo Grounds on Friday, June 8, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. The competition includes a clover race, pole bending, blind man's 3-barrel race, squeeze race and a mystery race.  Local dealers will be giving free demo rides for the public on the latest ATVs and UTVs on both Friday and Saturday at the rodeo grounds.
